Vegan Diet for Heart Health and Lower Cholesterol

Grants Pass, OR (PRWEB) November 15, 2011

Philip Paden. MD is an Ophthalmologist who has become an outspoken advocate for the "China Diet" to improve hearth health and eye health and to lower cholesterol. He is Chief of Surgery at the Paden Eye Care Center in Medford, Oregon. .

On November 7, 2011, Dr. Paden was interviewed on the Sharon Kleyne Hour Power of Water (sponsored by Bio-Logic Aqua Research and Nature's Tears EyeMist). The interview may be heard in podcast on World Talk Radio, Voice America, Green Talk Network, Apple iTunes.

Sharon Kleyne and Dr. Paden agree that there is virtually no eye care education in the United States today and that eye health is seriously threatened from many directions.

Dr. Paden noted that while the incidence of blindness in the US is lower than in Africa and Asia, it's not much lower. In Africa, blindness is usually related to sanitation and infection. In the United States, it is usually related to diseases of aging, and to systemic disorders such as glaucoma and macular degeneration.

Dr. Paden became concerned about the link between diet and eye health. He specializes in cataract surgery and eye damage from diabetes (macular degeneration), and he knew that diet definitely causes adult onset diabetes. At the time, all that was know about diet and vision was that dark green leafy vegetables, omega-3 fatty acids and carrots were good for vision.

A patient recommended these two books to Dr. Paden and they changed his life (see references below).

The China Study describes a comprehensive rural health study in China, of the incidence and distribution of cancer. Researchers found huge differences between provinces, that correlated to the foods they ate. Areas with the lowest cancer rates ate the least meat.

In the United States, where diet tends to be much more uniform from region to region, the cancer rate varies much less and is high everywhere.

Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease describes a study and the Cleveland Clinic in which 18 patients with advanced, untreatable atherosclerosis (blocked arteries), were put on a vegan diet and 26 years later, 16 were still alive and the other two died from accidents. All have recorded a significant reduction in arterial blockage and arteriosclerosis.

The actual diet recommendation is "whole food from plants," commonly referred to as "vegan." In this diet, only plant products are eaten. Meat, fish and dairy are avoided. Also avoided are foods extracted from plant products, such as juice, Cheetos, manufactured cereal. Refined sugar is avoided and cooking oil is minimized.

Sharon noted that refined sugar, fats and salt can set up unhealthy food cravings. These same foods tend to be dehydrating.

According to Dr. Paden, the American diet is "awful." That's why we have high rates of heart disease, arteriosclerosis, cancer and diabetes, disease considered insignificant 100 years ago.

Sharon asked about buying local, in-season produce and Dr. Paden though this was a good idea. He did note that modern technology, with improved transportation and storage, enables us to eat nutritious foods such as lettuce, even when out of season locally. He considers this a benefit.

The Face And Fat Index Tells The True Story Of The Employment Outlook Replacing Lipstick Index As An Indicator Of Economic Health Says Research By Liberty Health Network.

Tampa, FL (PRWEB) November 21, 2011

Could the Face and Fat index replace the lipstick index as the actual indicator of the current economic and employment outlook in the US? In the 2000's Leonard Lauder came to the conclusion that lipstick sales could be used as an economic indicator, showing that purchases of cosmetics (especially lipstick) demonstrate a tendency to be inversely proportional to economic health. Lauder believed that women substitute more expensive purchases like clothing and hard goods for lipstick during economic downturns. The lipstick theory was debunked when lipstick sales failed to generate a statistically significant relationship to the ups and downs of the economy after the 2000's.

But Russell Bly, Chief Operating Officer with Liberty Health Network, LLC (LHN) believes his Face and Fat index says a lot about the employment outlook. He explains We have the data. Although we have close to 100 different products and services in inventory, we are seeing an explosion in the sales of our Beau Visage Facelift Without Surgery At Home Facial System and our Weight Loss Plus and Slim EZ products. The increased sales are especially noticeable in our direct sales channels like Amazon.Com and Google Checkout.

From a purely statistical point of view, we can track the sales increases in lock-step with the unemployment rate over the last 24 months. In speaking with our customers we are finding many purchasers fear the loss of their job to someone younger or healthier, supporting our analytics. Surprisingly to us, both Men and Women are purchasing our Facelift Mask with a number one priority of looking better at work. And since the attempts to overhaul health care, we've seen brisk sales in weight loss supplements. Customers are telling us that they are not only concerned about their appearance, but concerned about employers increasingly looking negatively at overweight employees due to increased health risks and health insurance liabilities. It's great when people just want to feel better about themselves. But with these two products, our internal research indicates many purchases are being made out of concern. Fear is a powerful motivator. Says Bly.

While LHN offers two powerful products for looking better and losing weight, ultimately the consumer will decide why to purchase. For now, it seems purchases correlate in large part to the jobs outlook. For many consumers, it really is the economy.
