Vegan Diet for Heart Health and Lower Cholesterol

Philip Paden. MD is an Ophthalmologist who has become an outspoken advocate for the "China Diet" to improve hearth health and eye health and to lower cholesterol. He is Chief of Surgery at the Paden Eye Care Center in Medford, Oregon. .


On November 7, 2011, Dr. Paden was interviewed on the Sharon Kleyne Hour Power of Water (sponsored by Bio-Logic Aqua Research and Nature's Tears EyeMist). The interview may be heard in podcast on World Talk Radio, Voice America, Green Talk Network, Apple iTunes.


Sharon Kleyne and Dr. Paden agree that there is virtually no eye care education in the United States today and that eye health is seriously threatened from many directions.


Dr. Paden noted that while the incidence of blindness in the US is lower than in Africa and Asia, it's not much lower. In Africa, blindness is usually related to sanitation and infection. In the United States, it is usually related to diseases of aging, and to systemic disorders such as glaucoma and macular degeneration.


Dr. Paden became concerned about the link between diet and eye health. He specializes in cataract surgery and eye damage from diabetes (macular degeneration), and he knew that diet definitely causes adult onset diabetes. At the time, all that was know about diet and vision was that dark green leafy vegetables, omega-3 fatty acids and carrots were good for vision.


A patient recommended these two books to Dr. Paden and they changed his life (see references below).


The China Study describes a comprehensive rural health study in China, of the incidence and distribution of cancer. Researchers found huge differences between provinces, that correlated to the foods they ate. Areas with the lowest cancer rates ate the least meat.


In the United States, where diet tends to be much more uniform from region to region, the cancer rate varies much less and is high everywhere.


Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease describes a study and the Cleveland Clinic in which 18 patients with advanced, untreatable atherosclerosis (blocked arteries), were put on a vegan diet and 26 years later, 16 were still alive and the other two died from accidents. All have recorded a significant reduction in arterial blockage and arteriosclerosis.


The actual diet recommendation is "whole food from plants," commonly referred to as "vegan." In this diet, only plant products are eaten. Meat, fish and dairy are avoided. Also avoided are foods extracted from plant products, such as juice, Cheetos, manufactured cereal. Refined sugar is avoided and cooking oil is minimized.


Sharon noted that refined sugar, fats and salt can set up unhealthy food cravings. These same foods tend to be dehydrating.


According to Dr. Paden, the American diet is "awful." That's why we have high rates of heart disease, arteriosclerosis, cancer and diabetes, disease considered insignificant 100 years ago.


Sharon asked about buying local, in-season produce and Dr. Paden though this was a good idea. He did note that modern technology, with improved transportation and storage, enables us to eat nutritious foods such as lettuce, even when out of season locally. He considers this a benefit.

Newly Released Videos Show Wide-Spread Animal and Pet Starvation Inside the Fukushima Exclusion Zone

Three videos recently published on Youtube indicate a wide-spread animal and pet emergency is still taking place inside the Fukushima exclusion zone.


April 22, the government has implemented a no-go law punishable by fines or imprisonment [1].


This policy has reportedly blocked access by private Animal Search and Rescue teams many of which have documented wide-spread starvation of the companion animals, pets, and livestock within the TEPCO exclusion zone.


Concerned citizens held a protest in Tokyo on May 8th, starting in the "Hachiko" Square and ending at TEPCO offices [2].


Photos available on the Angels 2005 Animal Rescue Team "Action Report Blog" show many pets have already starved to death [3].


On May 5th, PETA has issued an action alert which in part states [4]:

"Please urge the Japanese government to take immediate action to transfer farmed animals inside the 20-kilometer no-go zone to facilities where they can be cared for or to euthanize any animals who are suffering."


PETA also provides a form email for readers to send:

"I was shocked to learn that the Japanese government has yet to take action to end the suffering of the estimated hundreds of thousands of farmed animals in the no-go zone around the Fukushima power plant."

Hello to everyone all over Japan. I am Meiko Yoshida, living in Odaku-ku, Minami Soma-shi, Fukushima-ken. My residence is at 17 km of the power plant.


March 11, 2011, the area was hit by the Eastern Japan mega earthquake as well as the tidal wave, followed by a series of accidents at TEPCO. The entire area of Odaka-ku, where we live, is within the 20 km radius. On March 12, the next day of the earthquake, TEPCO issued a voluntary evacuation order to Odaku-ku, which I was not aware of at the time.


The following day, on Sunday, March 13, I went to Odaka Ward Office, where I was told to evacuate immediately. The faces of the personnels then at the office were all devoid of expression like zombies while they worked. They knew what really happened in the power plant, that something horrible [had] happened, that is why their faces became like zombies.


Even though I was told to evacuate immediately, since I had nine cats to take care of at home, I had not been able to evacuate immediately. Several days later, on March 19, the Self-Defense Force members and the Ward Office personnels visited my home to persuade me to evacuate. I was told to leave the pets behind, and I left without them. At the time, I made a mistake of releasing my inside-living cats outdoors. I didnt have a mobile phone. I regret not having been able to consult with others who were in the same situation as myself.


Even at the evacuation center though, I was worried about my cats at home, so from March 19 until the midnight of April 21, I went back home every other day or two days to feed them food and water. During that period, six out of nine cats I released [had] been found and I have asked animal protection groups to look after them. One of the nine [has] died of a disease, and still now there are two remaining whom I have not been able to protect yet.


In the a.m. of April 21 it was just so sudden I heard that the 20 km area would become a severe cautionary zone. Before when I asked around when the off-limit will take effect, no one ever told me, but a bad news like that happened suddenly. Out of excessive worry, at around 23:00 on April 21, I went home but I was unable to provide them for protection. The cautionary zone became effective starting April 22, so I could no longer go back to my house. I had been asking the police officers at the checkpoint how I can get inside, [and they] told me that I need to obtain a permit from the city mayor, so I also went and appealed directly to the city mayor. So I went back and forth between the citys municipal office and the public health department, and asked to be permitted inside the zone, but it just could not be done.


The other day, on April 28, the public health department went inside the 20 km zone for the purpose of doing research; however this was for inspection only, so they could pick up wandering animals from the road. But no helping hand was extended for the cats and dogs who were left inside homes. When you rescue animals, time allowance is needed to carry out the task, but being told it starts tomorrow so suddenly, I was not able to carry out rescue.


At evacuation centers, there are MANY people who were told the same way and could not even prepare for evacuation, nor could they take their pets with them to evacuate. Those people are so worried about their pets living without them, their heartache is so severe that they cant sleep for nights; they cant even eat

So You Want to Start an Online Business

So you want to start an online business? I am prompted to write this article after receiving a phone call from my daughter a couple days ago. Apparently she had just returned home from an information meeting about starting your own online business. At the end of this two hour meeting, she decided on the spot that she did indeed want to start an online business and these people apparently could show her how; for a small investment of $ 3000. What? How much? Well what do you get for that?


Well regardless, to my way of thinking; unless they are going to register the domain, write the website, find your product and upload it to the site and get you a ranking on some search engines; then it isnt worth it. So before anyone else throws down $ 3000 at an information meeting; let me give you some insight into how easy it really is to start your own online business.


For the purpose of this article I will use my own site http://www.aitechworld.com as the examples. For your own purpose simply transpose your own information over mine.


First lets look at online business verses brick and mortar business. There are some initial key similarities. You need a location. For an online business; this is a website. Your website; like a traditional store needs an address. On the internet that would be your domain name. The domain name is very important the same as putting a traditional store way in the backwoods where nobody would ever see it. You want to choose a domain name that expresses what your business is all about. Today there are billions of domain names registered so getting the precise name you want probably wont happen; however look at your options carefully and pick a name you can market. This will be important later.


There are likely thousands of sites that you can investigate domain names. I always used GoDaddy.com for mine. When you do a search and it comes back and say that domain name is taken; it also gives you dozens of alternates based on your search. This is a good place to start. Get a list of names; research them; build on them; brainstorm; narrow them down; and finally pick the best of the best. You can register yourself also at GoDaddy.


So you have a business idea; which I assume includes a product? Right? And an address. The next thing to do; you do have a product right? Okay then the next thing to do is to write your webpage (build your store)? Nope. Actually were going to follow more tradition and think about how the store must compliment the product which must compliment the store. In our case; we need to think about keywords. Your keywords, and your domain name will be two of the three most important things that contribute to your rankings on the search engines. Well get to the third one a little later on.


What are keywords and why are they so important. Which keywords should I use? How often do I use them? Where do I use them? All of these have to be considered and resolved before you write one piece of your site. Or should be. You can revamp an existing website but we wont get into that here. Well assume this is for the purpose of creating a new site.


Which keywords do I use? The easiest way to start analyzing which keywords is to first think of what you would search for on the internet to find the exact products or services that you will be offering. In my case I sell discount consumer electronics. This is the meat of my site and the area I wanted to target. So I do a search on Google for discount consumer electronics. Now look through the results and see if any of the websites returned are selling what you are selling. If not; try another search term and repeat this process until you find it. Try to be as specific as possible. Search engines today are very complex and dont have a problem deciphering long strings of text. Try it sometime; youll be amazed.


Once you find relevant sites, there are a couple of routes you can take to hone your own keywords. The first thing you want to do is look at what they are using for keywords. To do this you need to look at the source code of the target website. I wont go into details; but if you browse to their website; then right click anywhere on the page you should be able to select view source or something to that effect. Copy and save their keywords. Do this for several sites and save all the keywords to a text file on your computer.


Now we have something to work with. In Series 2 of this article I will tell you how to refine those keywords based on relevance to your site, popularity, and your own marketing strategy. Also we will continue on building more of the foundation of a website; and online business; that will rank well in its own right. And without laying out $ 3000.

Home Service companies need to be more responsive to online customers

The study from market research specialists eDigitalResearch, found that only 6 of the 20 sites benchmarked managed to score above 50% for email contact as customers became increasingly frustrated with unhelpful or delayed responses, compared with a top score of 87.8% for the account area, reaffirming that users expect added customer support, as well as innovative website tools.


Derek Eccleston, Research Director at eDigitalResearch, explains, It is essential that home service companies are providing adequate customer support, especially as more and more utility providers are offering online users the ability to view balances and make payments, as well as pioneering other website features, such as nPowers innovative price comparison tool.


Online customers now expect certain standards when it comes to website usability and the supporting customer contact. As these expectations continue to grow with the rise of MEcommerce, where users are now dictating to companies where, when and how they want to interact, it is vital that home service sites take the necessary steps to provide online customers an experience they have now come to expect, especially before they start looking for a better experience and better deals elsewhere".


The eHomeServices benchmark report assesses the entire end to end customer journey across 20 of the leading home service, utility and property websites. Unsurprisingly, email customer service was the lowest performing area throughout the study, with an average satisfaction score of just 45%. Customers were also disappointed on first impressions, with homepages found to be uninspiring and difficult to navigate, and only managing to score an average of 69.6%.


Telecoms provider O2 topped the overall league tables for the first time with an overall score of 76% and a well rounded performance across the entire end to end customer journey, including their customer service. Shoppers were particularly impressed with O2s friendly and professional telephone customer service, as well as their prompt and detailed email responses.


Gas and electric companies were the highest performing sector, with nPower, Southern Electric, British Gas and E.ON all completing the top five. Customers particularly rated these top providers simple yet functional account areas that included detailed and relevant information, as well as a variety of helpful tools to check energy use and bills.


On comparison, property sites were the worst performing sector overall, with eight out of the nine benchmarked only making it into the bottom half of the table. Those that did particularly poorly were unable to offer online users basic website usability features that are expected nowadays, such as relevant and detailed search facilities, easy-to-navigate pages, and prominent contact details. For sites that now allow users to complete entire property searches online, it is crucial that they provide the basic websites essentials and necessary customer contact to support this.


Home service providers are still lagging behind other eDigitalResearch industry benchmark standards. However, the gap between scores is less than that in the eRetail, eTravel, eFinance and mCommerce benchmark studies, suggesting that utility providers have a greater opportunity to differentiate themselves from their closest competitors across the industry as a whole and increase their market share.

The next rush for domain wealth came with the LLL domains, that's 3 letter domains to those of you that are new to the business. Which then turned into numbers and letters. I.E. 123 etc. Then came the blogs. Oh yes the Blog revolution. If you registered a decent name with the word blog at the end of it, more then likely you had a gold mine. Now it's blog this and blog that.


So now we are in another cycle of the domain name game. Everyone is looking for that domain that will convert to some big $ $ $ . And just when we thought that the domain business just might be fizzling, along came wiki's. That's right, the new game in town, it's wiki this and wiki that. Some of the bigger domain investors knew this a couple of years ago. Even big companies like Nascar got in on the game early.


Not only does the name roll off your tongue(remember that pop song from the 80's, wiki, wiki, wiki?), it also has a meaning in the computer world. A wiki is a type of website that allows visitors to easily add, remove, and or edit and change some available content, sometimes without the need for registration. More and more people are starting to realize the goldmine that Wiki's are starting to become.


For instance if you were to do a search for the term wiki on google you would get over 200 million results. That's 2 hundred Million with a capital M. What this shows more then anything else is that Wiki's are headed the same way that blogs did, lots and lots of people are investing in and installing Wiki websites and domain names.


Even now most well used terms with the word wiki(just like blog), at the end of the domain name are gone. Will wiki's be the next ticket to the domain name rush? Who knows, but one thing is for certain, wiki's are being registered at rates almost comparable to the original domain name rush. And if you miss out on this one, well let's just say you will have no one to blame but yourself.
